Anyone interested in Graphics or CAD (Computer Aided Design), drawing, hires or
just wanting to do something more with their 64 than play games: We have just
received in our Data Libraries (DL1 & 6) an excellent set of CAD and Graphics
tools. CADV2.IMG (dl1) and it's supplementary files were written and
contributed by Stephen Nye [70366,1316]. He started with the graphics support
m/l routines known as USERML (in DL1, published long ago in COMMANDER magazine)
and has built a CAD/GRAPHICS utility that compares very well with most of the
commercial graphics programs available and is more Flexible and Useful than any
of the commercial products that claim to support C.A.D. type facility. For
those who only have Koala or other Multicolor graphics programs, here's a
chance to work in Hires (CADV2 supports both Doodle file format and 8K hires
bitmaps; Load/Save & Print). It is also the only really useful graphics
'creation' program available as shareware or PD. Not only can you create new
images, diagrams, illustrations, schematics, floorplans, etc. but you can load
other Hires images or Doodles for further work (eg. Computereyes digitizations,
Print Shop Screen Magic, Flexidraw, etc.). In CADV2, you can add details, text
labeling or description blocks and if you have a Star SG-10, Gemini 10x or
compatible, you now have one of the BEST printer utilities available for Hires
and Doodle images. It offers both single and double density dumps, single
screen (3 positions) or 2-screens connected vertically. This means you can
create images 4x the normal size of a CBM 64 screen (2 double screens per page,
640x400 resolution) or just get nice, compact dumps sets of all your picture
collection. There are 3 ARC'd sets that make up the CADV2 system: CADV2.IMG,
CADFIG.IMG and FIG2.IMG. Each should be downloaded to a clean SEPARATE DISK and
then de-ARC'd with ARC134.* (DL0) offline. You will want to also get CADV2.DOC
(dl1) which clearly outlines the features and use of the CAD system. In DL6,
Steve has also contributed 'visual documentation' of the key-oriented command
set (CADHLP.BIN) in the form of an ARC'd set of CSLIDE compressed Doodles (he's
even thought of including CSLIDE with the set). SCREEN.BIN is an ARC'd set of
CSLIDE Doodles which fully exemplify and illustrate sample applications to
guide users. Many were created by Steve with CADV2, others can be loaded and
experimented with (maps,etc.). CADHLP and SCREEN can be on the same disk and
will also un-ARC to small file sizes. To help you see the value of the lengthy
downloads required to obtain these treasures, I have prepared 6 of the SCREEN
files as RLE screens for online viewing with CBTerm 4.5 (PD, available in DL2
of CBIG) or VIDTEX 4.2. The other 2 files in DL1 are a 'figures' set of 40-50
pre-drawn Electronics symbols which will be added to your screen with the touch
of a key (CADFIG) and a 5x5 matrix character set for adding text labelling or
commentary to your hires screens(FIG2).
In summary, CADV2 is a complete set of hires drawing and drafting tools
which included many powerful features: arcs, boxes, broken lines, circles,
figures, freehand drawing, grid, ruler, fanouts, radial lines, ellipses, lines,
parallelograms, polar coordinates, waveforms, 2 screens, single/double density
printouts of single or double (connected) screens (Star SG-10, Gemini 10x or
compatibles) and supports loading and saving in Hires 8K bitmaps or Doodle
compatible files. A really powerful and flexible Graphics tool, contributed by
Stephen Nye to whom we owe much thanks. Make sure you let Steve know,
personally (by message or Email), how much you enjoy his contribution. I will
be happy to answer questions and support CADV2 here on the forum in Subtopics 1
& 6 and am available for 'live' discussion on Friday evenings in CO from
10-12pm EDT. Try it, You'll Like it!
